This song sounds somewhat menacing. Like accepting something bad, knowing that it will get worse, and laughing about how screwed up it is, knowing how inevitable it is.

I always imagined this whole album as a movie. Cloud of Unkowing was the moment where the island gets attacked and destroyed, leaving the gang floating in the ocean, hopeless. Then they get rescued by the Pirate Jet and the band is saved. A happy ending for a big adventure.
@ChongoFett3 жыл бұрын

I’ve been thinking a lot about this album recently, especially after the release of The Now Now. To me this song is supposed to be when everybody on the journey to the Plastic Beach - After almost giving up during The Cloud of Unknowing - finally found the plastic beach, and this song is supposed to be them celebrating their plastic paradise together. I can be totally wrong, but that’s always how I interpreted the transition to this song.

I've always thought of Plastic Beach as a musical film instead of an album, and the tracks are the ost's that they sing every now and then throughout the movie. This is really the best song to end Plastic Beach after everything they've gone through; Noodle's "death", battle against the boogeyman, 2D's captivity and the toxicity that this place has brought to them. It's like a thing that you never want to let go of but eventually you have to because it destroys you bit by bit. This could actually be the heaviest and most traumatic phase they have been through of all. And it makes me tear up that they decided to end this rough but beautiful journey with this song, and the first thing you hear is 2D saying "it's all good news now" and that brings relief to us. This could mean an open ending for this lore but at least for now, we know that they are safe, happy, and contented. They lowkey might be celebrating that this phase has ended because of the line "so drink into the drink". It makes me sad but happy at the same time because how can a problematic lore create the best songs, right? Idk if this makes sense but that's just what I thought of this song being the closing track of this album.

Not only is plastic beach my favourite album, I was also born in one of the plastic beach years. I didn't find out about this band until 2022 but I absolutely loved it. I fell in love with the genres and the music videos and just the music in general at a young age. Plastic Beach somehow feels like a part of me, and I feel like - even if she isn't part of the band anymore and she isn't real - cyborg noodle is my.. how do I say it.. not only idol, but also my best friend and like.. we are the same. I look like her, nearly the same age as her, I'm not sure what nationality she is, but I'm guessing she's British - I have a British uncle ( my aunt's husband) and even if that doesn't make me British, I sometimes used to say I was a bit british when I was a child. Noodle (the real noodle) looks like me as well (considering cyborg noodle is a clone of her, and I look like cyborg noodle) and we both had a pretty weird childhood. I cut my wrist-long hair just because I fell in love with her messy haircut (I know, a bit stupid) but I also don't regret it that much. My name is Nayeong Park, and I hope this comment gets read by Gorillaz ❤️

Makes me think of a cloudy day at the beach. But now that I think about it a lot of songs on this album do.

This is the song the billionaires will listen to as they fly away from the scorched earth on their space yachts.

The intro makes me feel like I'm at a cloudy and grey beach, and I'm with my friends. Then, boom, the synth hits, and dark and grey war ships start to arrive from the distance, and all we can do is stare.

Is it weird that I think of this song when I'm having a depressive episode? I'm not too worried about the planet anymore, I know we're getting our shit together. But maybe the song invokes a sort of "There's things to do but nothing to be done." vibe. Like, the world is ending, but it's OK because we can't do shit about it. Maybe that's what my depression feels like? I know how to cure it, but I can't just yet. Things will get better, even if they're not so good right now. Idk

We can always be wrong. I think about the problems, and sometimes I feel that we are looking for a single cause, a supreme culprit. How many things do we ignore? How many escape our understanding? I feel that the large scale of the world is something much more complex. And it's true, we can't do too much, only fair. As life passes on, we seek principles, we seek to hold on to what makes us feel full. We don't know if the basis of those principles are wrong, but following that path is what makes us feel fulfilled, somehow. I suppose that we are left to be faithful to the path we take, hoping to do the right thing; and not let this world consume us.
