Bro, the year was 2011. I was in 8th grade when I discovered Gorillaz, I stumbled upon them randomly. I had just started using the internet and social media, so I could finally look up new, awesome music, different from what my sibling was listening to and the radios. I still remember this eery feeling I felt while listening to every single one of their albums. Honestly Gorillaz was this super new, bizzare thing that fascinated me while puberty was slowly starting eating up my insides. The story about the characters and the sequence between their music videos was the most exciting thing in my daily life back then. Their unique sound was THE SHIT for me, it got me through stuff. Honestly I felt like I had discovered a hidden treasure, a secret, that only I could enjoy. I was feeling pretty special. Good times. I am so glad I grew up with Gorillaz. This song literally makes me go to a beach or rolling rink and dance with a close friend or just enjoying myself, basically the whole plastic beach album is a vibe one of my favorites

Plastic Beach was my first Gorillaz album. I still remember being 12 or 13 and seeing the commercial for it, recognizing the artwork from when some classmates shared Demon Days in elementary school, and being interested. 15 years later, listening to this song, I can’t help but think of Murdoc’s monologue in the last bit of his and 2D’s iTunes interview, where he talks about how fast technology has progressed and how fast our population as a species grew. How were all becoming more cramped and crowded on this planet and leading to an inevitable conclusion: Point Nemo. I feel like this song is the perfect encapsulation of that mindset; the ominous bass, guitar, and ambiance setting this mood of mystery but dread, then the synth kicks in and there it is, through the thick of the storm, the crashing waves, the uncertainty of life or death: Plastic Beach, Point Nemo, The End of Days. A garbage infused world of our own making, painted pink, given fake palm trees, and a studio mansion built atop it to hide its hideous nature in false beauty and promises. A world which we are no longer headed towards, but smack dab in the middle of, trying to paint it whatever color we want, decorate it with whatever will make it prettier, but cannot contain the hideous nature within.

A lot of plastic beach reflects Murdoc's generally bad mental state during the time but THIS? THIS. THIS VIBE. It literally can't get any clearer. I hear the fear and insanity and depression in the song. So many songs on plastic beach are dripping with negative emotion and this song is TOTALLY one of them. Brilliant album, both technically and lore-wise.

I love going through the albums instead of only listening to the most popular songs, because they have so many hidden gems that are way too underrated and harder to find.
