This song holds a special place in my heart. This is on repeat during the hardest months of my college life; pulling all nighters making my architectural thesis. There I am in my room having breakdowns for weeks and wondering whether I am good or even enough to graduate in college and to navigate this world. Thankfully this song calms me and gives a comforting, cozy vibe. Like a firefly in your hand glowing when every light in your world dimmed out, this song was my torch. I would've probably quit at that point if I didn't stumbled on this song. These may all sound dramatic but its true ahaha. I successfully passed my thesis and graduated last year. And this year I got my first job and am now getting closer to one of my dreams. So I thank you for creating this song; it gave me hope and will, still.

Your description of architecture school’s brutality is so accurate. They don’t call it architorture for nothing. I too thought many times that I’d never make it. Then I thought the same in early career and it didn’t help that the recession recovery was still slow in 2013. I found a rare niche in the industry that is a good fit for me and pays better than I ever imagined but it took 10 years to get there. 4x starting pay and no plans for licensure

I've first heard this song 11 years ago and I immediately showed it to my family, specially to my mother and we loved it so much... Just one month after she passed away in a hospital... Years passed and I couldn't even hear this song completely without falling in tears sobbing a lot, the last bell ring reminded me she passed away, every time. Now, 11 years later, I still miss so much my mother, I can't even describe it. But I think I've started to heal because now this song makes me remember her being happy and I'm able to hear it from start to finish, in tears but with a smile. Thanks Gorillaz for this amazing, melancholy, beautiful peace of art!

My friends: “who do you have a crush on” Me: “ Cyborg Noodle (2009-2016, reactivated on 2018-) is a robotic replica of Noodle that served as a replacement of her during the third phase of the band. Cyborg Noodle was created by Murdoc Niccals on Plastic Beach from using the real Noodle's DNA samples he gathered from the crash site where the "El Mañana" music video was filmed. This robot clone was given the job of playing the guitar on the "Plastic Beach" album as well as being Murdoc's personal bodyguard. In the music video for the single, "Stylo", Murdoc, 2-D, and Cyborg Noodle were pursued by a law enforcement agent for speeding on an open highway in the Stylo Camaro belonging to Murdoc. Suffering from the bullet hole in her head, Cyborg Noodle became incapacitated with oil coming out after firing several shotgun shells at the police officer's vehicle. The trio were then pursued by an unknown bounty hunter (Bruce Willis) armed with a revolver who lost track of the three when they dive into the Pacific Ocean. Upon their descent into the ocean, Stylo transformed into a shark-like submarine. In the music video for the "On Melancholy Hill" single, Cyborg Noodle regained consciousness inside of the submarine. Upon regaining consciousness, she regurgitated an unusual one-eyed octopus. While the submarine continued its voyage to Plastic Beach, the trio engaged in a rendezvous with the band's collaborators who were also piloting submarines of their own individual design. Upon their arrival at Plastic Beach, the fleet encountered a mysterious assailant known as the Boogieman who was blocking the fleet's route to the studio with a manatee as a hostage. Murdoc, seemingly surprised to see the Boogieman, then ordered Cyborg Noodle to dispose of him with hostile force. The trio then climbed topside where Cyborg Noodle commenced her attack on the Boogieman. After firing two consecutive solid slug shells with her Remington 870, the Boogieman dragged the manatee into the sea and the fog cleared, revealing Plastic Beach. In the storyboard and Fan Made video for the "Rhinestone Eyes" video she is seen shooting at the Boogieman who appears attacking Plastic Beach. She then runs to get more guns and ammo. She is then shown blowing up the door and taking cover behind a tree. Later, on near the end of the video, the now giant Russel comes out of the sea and stares at Cyborg Noodle. Then the real Noodle steps out of Russel's mouth. Cyborg Noodle looks shocked, while the real Noodle pulls off her cat mask showing the bruise on her eye caused by the attack at El Manana. Noodle stares at Cyborg Noodle while the video ends. Although a showdown against Noodle and Cyborg Noodle was never shown it's said in an interview with Murdoc that Noodle killed the cyborg when it started going "wonky" (or she malfunctioned) and tried to kill Murdoc. This was later revealed to be a lie on Murdoc's part, as the Book of Murdoc notes that Cyborg joined Murdoc in his escape, serving as a perfect shipmate on the submarine. My friends: “what the fu-“

A while back, there was this kid in my English class named Noah Fleischhacker. We had an assignment where the teacher picked a student, and then that student picked a song, and we had to analyze the lyrics of said song. She picked Noah. I never really knew Noah well enough to know if he was a hardcore Gorillaz fan, but there was something awfully cheerful about his demeanor when this song played in front of our whole class to know that he loved this song. The next year, he got diagnosed with cancer and missed 3 quarters of the school year. I just stumbled across this song for the first time in probably a year, and I can't help but think of Noah Fleischhacker sitting in the back of our English classroom with a straight face, absorbing every lyric of this song as it played for our class. I don't know what happened to him exactly, but I know he's still out there making the best out of every day. I hope that he (and you, the listener) can find some comfort and solace in music like this during this trying time. UPDATE: My friends convinced me to get Discord the other day and as it turns out, Noah was online on my friend’s server! I didn’t personally ask him about the cancer thing, but my friend said that Noah went through chemotherapy and is doing fine. He seemed normal when I talked to him. And yes, this comment is true.

im in tears, so im really sorry if i make any typos i've never been a big fan of Gorillaz, their "Song Machine" got me a bit, i liked some of their older songs, but whenever Spotify was randomly adding this one song to the queue, i was always skipping it for something else. that is, until this night. i was having lots of stuff on my mind regarding failed relationships that i had with one of my friends, i couldnt really help it but thinking about it over and over again, how did it end up like this and was it really my fault. i was given multiple chances, but each and every single one i've waffled straight away. i was thinking that those were chances to regain our relationships back, but it was never about this. those were chances to realise that it was never coming back. i couldnt really go to bed and i couldnt really do anything, so i was just sitting here, behind my desk, headphones on, having a smoke, and... i didnt realise that it was "Melancholy Hill" until i heard 2D's voice. i was just about to skip it, but... for some reason i couldnt do that. my mind was telling me to press on that button, but my heart was whispering to me to listen to it. to give it a chance. so i did. that was the best decision i've made in a long run. "Up on Melancholy Hill, there's a plastic tree Are you here with me? Just looking out on the day of another dream Where you can't get what you want, but you can get me So let's set out to sea, love 'Cause you are my medicine when you're close to me When you're close to me" that made me realise that sometimes its better to just stay together as friends and family. if you see that it was never going to work out, then just let it go. dont leave the other person just because you will never be together in some special kind of way. because if you do leave them or force them, it will only hurt both of you. thanks to Melancholy Hill, i was finally able to express how i felt about him, what i've been thinking about and everything. i told him that i've already found someone, he was really happy for me, which made me cry even more. i promised that i will be happy and that i will be happy for him, too. he promised that he'll never leave and will never forget about me, that i'll never be valued less. i know that i will never leave my second family, and if i do, i will still be somewhere there, around, watching after them. when those relationships with my friend failed, i thought about giving up on everything. i thought i lost on life. turns out, i won. i have more than i could've ever asked for. dont look for relationships. look for friends. look for people. your time will come too. if you somehow ended up being here right on this line, i have something to tell you: things will get better. eventually. dont ever give up. take care, stay safe and stay strong. much love, strangers. thank you, Gorillaz. you've done so much for me. (if you're reading this, i hope you're happy somewhere out there. and thank you. you're the best person i've ever met. you've made me who i am. thank you. i love you, Liam)

I used to live in London with my Mum, my parents split when I was young and my Dad moved back to Melbourne when I was 11. After a few years my Mum and I agreed when I was 16 that it would be good to have a strong positive male figure in my life, as I didn’t really have one for some time. I remember landing back in Melbourne after not seeing my Dad for a few years, and at 3am I got out of the airport and he picked me up. We drove home to the house I was born in, over the bolty bridge to this song. The city skyline was immaculate, my nostalgia immense, and a new page turned which was frightening but exciting. Every time I hear this song I am back in the passenger seat, window down being blasted by cold winter air, with the glistening skyline on the bridge with no obstacles to block the view. That was about eight years ago and is one of my favourite memories.

Josie This song is forever for you. Ill never forget hearing it on the bus for the first time in 2011. And missing you because you were in rehab. Now its been 7 years since your death. And i miss you in a whole new way. Ill forever be missing you and loving you with my whole heart. Rest in peace to the greatest friend a person could have. “Just looking out for the day when you’re close to me “

This song is like a virtual hug. Like it’s saying “I know everything sucks right now, it’ll all work out. It’ll be okay.” It’s a weird feeling that I can describe as sad, melancholy, comforting, nostalgic, optimistic, calming, empty, but also complete at the same time. One of my favorites by gorillaz and I’ll forever love it.

It also quite nicely dovetails with the bittersweet music video. Yes, pirates sunk the ship, but Noodles still fought bravely, killed one of the attackers and survived. The band drove off the monster, shooting at him - although he still takes the manatee with him. Nothing is perfect :)

For those who want the lore. This is the first time we have seen noodle after we presumed she died. Murdoc made a robot noodle in her absence to help with the bands production. The 2 planes at the start are assumed to be the same 2 that originally "killed her" (The 3d noodle with the bullet in her head is robot noodle) Russell and noodle had nothing to do with the production of this song Russell tried to run from his past and the drums you hear were made by Murdoc after using old recordings of Russell drumming. After kong studios gets destroyed murdoc finds plastic beach which is the island in the video. As he originally arrives plastic beach is just a ton of landfill, so he pains it pink and builds a new hq on top of it. The boogie man is there to collect murdocs soul after murdoc doesnt repay the deal he made with the devil to make gorillaz successful. Edit: The reason Russell is so big is because he dived into the river on a shore far away and has swam all the way to plastic beach, all the chemicals and waste have increased his size The shark they are In is the same car bruce Willis chased them in and once it jumped into the water it turns into the shark sub.

The painful nostalgia in this is almost unbearable for me. I always remember watching this music video with my Mum, it was around 2010, back when Channel 4 used to premiere new music videos late at night... Me and Mum used to always stay up late together, putting the world to rights. She died in 2014. I miss her every single day. I’m more or less alone now. Don’t have anyone now, really. So yeah, listening to this song always brings that moment back, I’m back with my Mum for just a few moments. It can be a painful listen if I’m not ready for it... it’s weird how music can hold so much.

Well I'm not sure of the whole story but those three songs in the order I've listed tell a continuing story which doesn't really come to a conclusion so I'm still trying to piece the rest together, but to see what I've noticed look at "Stylo" first, then "On Melancholy Hill" and then the visual for "Broken" it should be of Noodle playing the melodica.
