the more i listen to this song, the more depressing it gets. the story in the song appears to be about following a relationship that is drifting away, but you keep on going because of the embers of good in it - the fireflies...but you can only see them in the dark. and the 6/4 time signature also is cyclical and goes in the pattern, where the first verse ascends, then falls again. in the chorus is ascends higher and higher then tumbles down again. kind of reflecting how emotionally draining the relationship is because when it's high it's high but when it's low it is LOW.

unpopular opinion: fire flies is one of gorillaz best songs (and all songs are masterpieces)

Previously, every Gorillaz song took a few spins to become a favorite. This and Sorcerez were instant hits for me. Amazing.

Maybe is just me, but this album feel more mature, like Albarn and Hewlett have been experimenting for a long time, and this time they decided to deal with their nostalgia and age (they're both 50 now). This album reminds me of the songs we had back in the late 80's and 90's. In fact, it brought me a wave of nostalgia (specially this one) when I listened it for the first time. It's like meeting a new friend you have known for your entire life. It's weird, and I can't stop listening it.

My first listen to this song: I kinda just ignored the lyrics and was hypnotized by the synth. Second listen: Listened to the lyrics and they hit me hard. Every other listen after: I cry literally every time.

This song is very soft and gentle. I really love this and the full album of The Now Now. It's so gentle and easygoing in my opinion. Idaho and this song is my favorite songs from this album. To be honest this whole album is a beautiful masterpiece..

Everyone seems very used to Ace being currently being part of the group, I wonder how they’re gonna feel once Murdoc gets out of jail.

It normally takes a 2nd listen for me to realize how much I love a Gorillaz song. It' been this ways since I found them. This is proabably the first time I've ever liked a Gorillaz song on the first listen.

Without Murdoc in the picture, 2D's finally able to develop into something new. Really excited to hear the album, and even more excited to see the character development of the band members, especially with the introduction of Ace. This is anyone's game now.

An Elder Hispanic woman from Honduras raised me and my brother and over time took care of my immediate family. She lived with us from the time I was 2 years old till 22 years old. She was getting older in her age and subtly weaker; the language barrier became greater as I grew up. She left us this year because I thought her health was affecting her quality of life. The same month she left, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. I listen to this and think of her every time I hear this and cry. I miss her and want to tell her how sorry I am that I was ignorant of her pain, of even her language. I'm greatly thinking of making a photo/ video montage of her to this song and sending it to her explaining this. I love you, Ana.

This song means the world to me. Reminds me of my dog May. We've been together since both of us were newborns. in 2018 she was already very old, and got ill. I would sing this to her when she wouldnt eat. Many nights i would sit by her side and sing this while patting her and sobbing. Thanks, gorillaz, for letting me immortalize her in this song.
