9 years later and I've come to the realization that Gorillaz' songs are simply timeless

For some reason I’m obsessed with the little animation of 2D. Something about the care and worry in his eyes as he pleads, “talk to me” gets to me.

Here's a bit of trivia if anyone is interested. Doncamatic was the name of the Rhythm Machine released by Keio Gijyutsu Kenkyujo (later renamed Korg) founded by Tsutomu Katou. Katou was a submariner in WWII. Daley cruising in a submarine and coming across WWII wreckage doesn't seem a coincidence to me. In fact, Katou was the asked by Gorillaz to record the vocal sample of "Doncamatic" which is heard in this song. Just a bit of nerding-out. I don't claim to have the full story worked out, just wanted to point out some connections. ✌️

I remember when this first came out and there were people who mocked the song and said it was terrible and a lot of that had to do with a guy who had such high vocals and now the comments are about how cool it is the guy has such high vocals. Times have changed and I'm here for it.

10 years ago, this was made. Man, gorillaz will always have good music.

For those who don't know, this happens between melancholy hill and rhinestone eyes. Daley is heading to plastic beach on his own. 2D is still locked down and tries to communicate with him.

I'm impressed with this guy's high vocals. And the music video overall is just satisfying to watch.

'Plastic Beach' feels so incomplete without this track.

its been years but this song is still one of my absolute favorites almost entirely because of 2ds little bit. i dont know what it is about the way he says "talk to me", but its so hypnotic. and the animation on the screen just adds to that, its mesmerizing! this entire song is just stunning

So THAT'S why this song wasn't on the official album. Daley got separated from the rest of the guest artists on his way to Plastic Beach and was late to the recording session. Glad he made it. We wouldn't have this song without him.

i ADORE how at 2:15 daley's vocals become more high and prolonged, which, if you were just listening to the song, you'd probably think it was just to make the chorus sound better and less repetitive. BUT when you watch the music video and note how his character is becoming increasingly stressed, it really adds more weight. p.s. daley's voice is literally angelic. it's like the audio equivalent of a honeycomb milkshake.

i don't think many people understand that gorillaz is a very experimental song, hence the variety in songs and the members of the band being characters. this song is a little different but that's really what the bang is about

Ok but i love 2Ds part im this. Its a small part but he is just so gorgeously singing and the animation is smooth and perfect just AAAAAA

It would be really funny if Gorillaz collaborated with Daley again in the future and he's just like "Oh yeah, that was my glasses I lost back at Plastic Beach. Must have floated up to some random skeleton."

I’ve been on a Gorillaz kick recently. Last week it was Saturn Barz, Aires before that, Andromeda, etc. This is my kick this week. So many good songs. I love this band. Daley is such a good singer, wish his Spotify was more populated.

I love how pretty much everyone you speak too who listens to Gorillaz agrees with the fact that at first you never really like one of their songs, it usually takes a few listens until you really get into them and then you are hooked

That "Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me" part is so addictive, idk why. The animation is fluid, the art is nice, the vocals sound great. Honestly wish 2-D/Damon had more lines rather than just those three words a few times.

You know what I don't get? People are bitching about this song sounding nothing like Gorillaz, but honestly, this reminds me a lot of DARE. Just because it doesn't have 2D prominently (in fact, DARE doesn't have 2D at all), and it still has the distinct trip-hop-ish/experimental feel of any other song they've done. I don't see the problem. :/

Daley looks like a 2018 KZbinr.

For some reason, I really like 2D's voice in this song in particular. Not that his voice is bad in other songs, it's just that I find that his voice draws me into the song even more.

I’m a more recent fan, and there is something about this song that itches my brain in a good way! Daley’s voice is so beautiful, and the sounds in this song sound great too. Plus, the music video is so cool! I love the way he’s just jamming out in the sub, and the animation on 2-D is amazing as always. I love this song so much! ❤

An interesting production that's catchy and strange paired with the combined unique and complementary vocals of Albarn and Daley make this one of the best Gorillaz non-hits for me. Such a fun track!
