The first time I heard this song and focused on the lyrics, I was in shock. It feels like 2d is talking to you. After everything that happened, especially in plastic beach, the four of them were traumatized, but the fans have also felt bad about all that, and some have taken it very literally. In this song, 2d is saying that we don't have to feel bad about the previous events. He's a cartoon, and his story is finally starting to change for the better. It is a very strong reality check.

It's 2023 now; not 2018 anymore. What 2-D did in the Humility MV was beyond embaressing ! This is the most emotional a gorrilaz song has made me. Like he's acknowledging he's just a silly cartoon character, he isn't real. We shouldn't feel sad for him. Damon said in an interview that what inspired this song was a conversation/interaction he had with an AI-powered robot or something like that. I think what this song is really about is how Damon thinks that humans (the skinny apes), will never fully be replaced by AI (that's why we shouldn't be sad) and that AI and humans will co-exist with their unique abilities and skills together. "To the poles" is a literal reference to electricity that powers AI. "And nobody knows what they're fooling with here" is a reference to the uncertanties that surround the new technology as it develops that people are still trying to puzzle/figure out. OK, it was the new "Amazon Delivery Bot" that is now delivering packages in some parts of the U.S. He saw one while he was writing this album. It is powered by full-on AI and can actually converse with delivery recipients as I understand. Damon explains it in his intro to the song here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX2Xcn-PhdJ0pLc

I'm always surprised reading comments and finding that no body seemed to notice any of the hidden meanings behind the lyrics in ANY of the Gorillaz songs. "My intent is to breath in a new world" while zooming in on Murdock hold a picture of him in his satanic cultist outfit. There songs are all about the elites worshiping false idols, and how band often acts as an arm for them reaching to the masses, half willingly. They make it pretty obvious for anyone listening or watching. I saw one comment saying "Looks like 2D finally found happieness" 2D is always unhappy cause he's always being controlled and this song is no different. He's saying the NWO has began and he's just trying to survive. He's no golden idol for you to look up at so don't martyrize him, especially since he helped bring the NWO in. He's just trying to breath and stay alive through it all. Especially don't look up or be sad to and for him because he's just a cartoon. He's not suffering from this new world, don't be sad for him. Your the one suffering.
