my hope is just that they bring back a more gritty punk style to it than the more light and mechanical stuff they did in plastic beach. i didnt mind some songs but the overall feel just wasnt quite gorillaz.

It's almost like this a cover. I know Damon is 2D but he sounds a little more aggressive singing here where 2D is relaxed. After loving the cartoons for so long it's as though it's not Damon's voice but 2D himself. Weird, I know.

Listen, Damon can do the "2D" voice naturally, it's just that when he does it in a medium-high tempo song it may sound forced, and in a live environment that's not what you want. Listen to Empire Ants performed live and you'll see what I'm talking about, he can perform the voice there perfectly

I think it's cause it's harder to sing in the 2d voice for so many songs in a row while preforming live. I think he has kind of force the softer tone. 2d has an almost unnaturally calm voice on the albums.

I can't believe I haven't seen this performance yet. I used to be a huge fan of them and I thought the sort of anonymous feel of the band made them that much better. Either way there still great.

While I agree that this sounds more aggressive than 2d normally would, is anyone else able to see an animated video of this inside their head - with 2d, Noodle, Murdoc, and Russel - even though there isn't one? Or is that just me? I guess I can understand the differences. It isn't a studio, and stoned or not, he's hyped. I don't blame him. Gorillaz, and 2D in particular are his musical avatars. How awesome to be able to come out from behind the avatar(s) and perform yourself as yourself.

@ashklaxon You don't have to jump around like a fool all the time to show you like the music. Interest and concentration is also respectful, you know. I know experimental music and art rock where you just can't dance to. Instead the little crowd shows their interest by just sitting and feeling and listening to the art.
