@dildonius3 жыл бұрын
@Asia Gandy You know kids aren't stupid, right? I'm pretty sure they can comprehension concepts like war. Especially in 2005. As someone who was 10 years old & 11 years old in 2005, when this performance was recorded - which means I was born in about the same exact year as these kids were and thus was the same exact age that they were when this performance was recorded - I can assure you that they're _all_ *fully* aware of the shit that was going on in the world at the time. *Everybody* was. 2005 was just 4 years after September 11, 2001 (9/11) and it was also the absolute height of the George W. Bush Presidency/Tony Blair, uh...Prime...Ministry(?), as well as both the Iraq War (which America started in 2003 and didnt end end until 2011, then still wound up doing even more cleanup until like 2017) & the Afghanistan War (which America started in *2002* and as of today - 19 May, *2021* - _still_ has not ended, with Biden finally pledging to get all US troops out of the region on or by 11 September, *2021* - the *20 year anniversary* of 9/11, the triggering event for the war - which would finally end the longest and most pointless war in American history - having lasted *19, almost 20* goddamn years despite the fact that Osama Bin Laden has been dead since [at least] *2011* [aka *10 fucking years* ago!] & literally _every single other person_ involved in funding, planning, and carrying out 9/11 is also dead...or locked up in Guantanamo Bay, which is functionally the same thing as being dead). Themes of war and death and jingoistic nationalism would've been VERY easy for them to wrap their heads around. As I said, kids aren't dumb. Especially kids in the 2000s. The beginning of the 2000s had 9/11, the middle of the 2000s had two senseless pointless forever-wars in the Middle-East, and the end of the 2000s had collapse of the housing market/the Bursting of The Housing Market Bubble, which immediately triggered The Great Recession of 2008 - the worst financial disaster in American history since The Great Depression of 1929 to 1933/1938. Plus 2009 also saw the first black POTUS get inaugurated. And then even after the 2000s ended, right away there was the Keystone Access Pipeline Protests of 2009/2010/2011/2012/2013/2014, the Occupy Wall Street Movement of 2011/2012, the killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012, the acquittal of his killer in 2013, and the killings of Michael Brown & Eric Garner in 2014 and of Freddie Gray in 2015 - which all became focal points of the then-new Black Lives Matter movement, leading to massive Police Riots in Ferguson, Missouri & Baltimore, Maryland & New York City, New York throughout 2013 & 2014 & 2015, plus the Summer of Donald Trump/J.E.B. & Bernie Sanders/Hillary Clinton in 2015, followed by the brutal election of 2016, followed by the brutal years of the Trump administration from 2017 to 2021 (the complete polar OPPOSITE of the Obama administration of 2009 - 2017 and even worse than the W. Bush administration of 2001 - 2009) including the equally brutal 2020 election, which has to still be fresh in EVERYBODY'S minds....

Gorillaz isn't just a band, it has the support of a lot of artists and people who love it, because the characters couldn't just be 'alive' without the cheering and faith we have on them.

I heard from a friend who attended this like performance that Damon Albarn and the Kong studios paid the parents of the kids to be there while on performance, hence the parents dancing by the tables. If that wa actually true, then yay because Gorillaz paying for the kids's parents tables would be such a nice gesture!
