Fun Fact: The whole album is supposed to be like a journey through a cold, dark night, where every track is a demon you must face. This track, however, is supposed to be like the first orange light of the rising sun, washing away the shadows.

The time that this came out was already a dark one. The shadow of 9/11 loomed high above the West. Iraq was being torn limb from limb. There had just been a bombing in London. Hurricane Katrina had just slammed into New Orleans, killing hundreds. It was a dark time and it seems the times have simply gotten darker and darker. This song is about the desire to get through, and seek better times.

I promised my best friend, since school was so stressful in the pandemic and grades were scaring us, and life was getting hard, on the first day of summer we would watch the sun set and listen to this legendary song. I wish they'd post a version with Fire Coming Out of Monkey's Head, Don't get Lost in Heaven, and this combined because I think those songs NEED to be played together to truly work. Fire is about disaster striking, Don't Get Lost is has a sense of giving up, and this song is about keeping hope. And man, the transition between Don't get Lost and this song is so fucking powerful. And the part where the guitar plucking comes in is just chilling. I absolutely love Clint Eastwood and Feel Good Inc to death, and while those are my childhood favorites, this song might just edge them out a bit. Maybe I just didn't get it as a kid but man, this song is so emotional. Perfect way to finish what I'd consider to be the best Gorillaz album.

@Gnix19963 жыл бұрын
This and Plastic Beach are equal imo. They’re both legendary with complete different moods/styles.
@panameadeplm3 жыл бұрын
@@Gnix1996 I disagree. A plastic beach is very close to what I'd describe Plastic Beach as. Literally almost every track on Plastic Beach is a feature, mostly there to suit whoever is being featured. Plastic Beach has no intentional, crafted moods or styles, because it's a project made by 20+ people. I know featuring artists has always been part of what Gorillaz is, but it very clearly felt to me like Plastic Beach was the moment where Damon Albarn gave the project away to the guest artists, and he hasn't been able to get it back since.
@Gnix19963 жыл бұрын
@@panameadeplm well you’re entitled to your opinion and I can understand where you’re coming from but I don’t feel the same. It’s a very consistent album in sound and theme. There’s more features than in DD but it’s still very balanced and there’s plenty of Damon’s vocals/influence. I would agree with you on Humanz. Way too many features on that one.
@_ruaryy2 жыл бұрын
@@Gnix1996 Agree with you 100%. The only difference between the two is that Plastic Beach includes its features in the song titles while Demon Days doesn't. People talk about this song representing a dawning of a new day, but I don't feel like it's positive like most people seem to think of it. It feels very melancholy and "this is fine". That said it's one of my favorite songs they've done.

A song to listen to in these hard times, or in other words, demon days.

I play this song whenever life puts me in an inescapable corner. ... Like it has been for the last two year. Sometimes it's on loop for the entire day.

Ok but how can anyone understand what 2-D says at the beginning? His voice is beautiful but I haven't a clue what he's saying.

Kassa Finding lyrics on the internet for Gorillaz is hard because every sight says something different.
@elijah.rb718 жыл бұрын
Yaki Chizu He says the "in these demon days it's cold inside" thing. But you are right, finding lyrics for Gorillaz is hard. Every site I look at for lyrics says "I need a gun to keep myself from harm" on Dirty Harry, but it actually says to keep myself among, according to Damon.
@peterloya71688 жыл бұрын
Yeah and then Damon sometimes intentionally changes lyrics during live performances. I want to learn some of the songs but it's hard figuring out what version of lyrics would be the most "correct"

In demon days, it's cold inside You don't get nobody, people sigh It's so bad, lasting far, but love yourself Hiding in a hole in there All the glasses are far too big bring it back, got to hold it back To let you do that yet you don't want me back Before it fall down, falling down, falling down Falling out to go far, far from the sun

The very first time I heard this song, first thing that came to mind was how it was the type of music you'd hear while the memories from your life rolled down a screen (like rolling credits at the end of a movie)

I'm very very happy all their albums are here on KZbin. I've wanted to get Demon Days for a while, and I thought, well, what if I buy it and don't end up liking it all that much? Needless to say, I think I'm buying the album pretty soon.

One of my favorite all time songs

This song always brings me back to 2010 when I broke up with my high school girlfriend 5 years after graduating. I moved away to Flint, Michigan of all places to live on my own, hang with people I thought were my friends, and see what else was out there. All it amounted to was a prescription pill problem that I developed as my roommate was an alcoholic and heavy opiate user. I was in too deep before I really noticed it. After a year of this I was sitting in my car on a freezing December morning in my work parking lot. Car and heat not even running as I was so low on gas and funds I couldn't risk it. This song, Demon Days, that ive heard many times before but didnt really get into as much as other Gorillaz songs came on the playlist through my phone and really resonated with me this time. I laid back in my seat and stared out the sunroof and felt the warmth of the sun on my face as I closed my eyes along with the song. At one point I opened them and watched a plane fly across the window and I imagined myself on it.. taking me out of Flint, Michigan to somewhere warm, leaving my problems behind. I was no longer sitting in my frozen car feeling withdrawal symptoms from pain killers, that ironically only caused me pain. My entire body had thawed and I finally felt relief. And then just like out of a bad movie or something.. my boss walks by my car on his way into work, bangs on my driver side window and points at his watch and slumps his way inside. I turned off the music.. immediately felt frozen from head to toe again, and the body aches and anxiety riddled mind all rushed back. Ever since then this has been my escape song when I desperately need to be somewhere else.

Man, kids today will never understand how brilliant it was to grow up at the time that this came out. Listening to this album all the time, even when things were bad, and I mean REALLY bad, music in general helped a young me to endure.

like if things aren't bad for kids today lol I'm 16 btw and have been listening to this album since my dad showed it to me when I was like 8. I've had many mental health problems in recent years and music is what's helped me the most in fighting them. I'm planning on buying the vinyl in the upcoming month. This album is an absolute masterpiece.
