I asked my parents to get me this cd at Tower Records, Las Vegas the year it came out. Jeez, I must've been 9 or 10 years old then. At that time, we had two homes, one in Las Vegas, NV and one in central California (where my dad worked). We would travel back and forth at least twice a month by car. I had a cheap portable disc player and would listen to this CD the whole six hour drive; laying down on the back seat, watching falling stars across the cold desert skies. A blur of good childhood memories.

I just listened to Slow Country for the first time in awhile and god damn lol when I first got into Gorillaz (January 2022) I was in a bad place mentally, my grandma moved out of the house, we just had my grandpa’s memorial and winter depression was really eating at me I live in Minnesota so it gets to be -30 degrees Fahrenheit so it really does get to you, but anyways after I found Gorillaz I would listen to their first album all the time on repeat, it took me away from everything and I would just use their music to cope, I remember listening to Slow Country so much that winter, being so cold and numb everyday, the same thing over and over, the freezing bus ride to school, going to the same classes, getting home and laying in bed waiting for it to repeat again, I listened to that damn album so much. It used to take me away from everything but now it just brings me back, Slow Country really gets me because the lyrics describe shitty, repetitive, lonely city life, I kinda felt like that was me in a way. It’s weird I’ve never really felt that way with a song
@floyp2 жыл бұрын
as someone who also lives in minnesota and has horrible seasonal depression in the winter, i absolutely feel you.. it gets hard sometimes here😭😭 theres some music i had on repeat during my depressive episodes that i just cant listen to anymore because of the feelings it brings back, but having something to distract you in those times is something everyone needs for sure
@johnruthger5507 жыл бұрын
i love this song so very much. to me, it's representative of more than just a song; it transports me back to my teenage years. i still vividly recall the first time i'd ever heard it: four of my friends and myself were driving around on lonesome country roads at about four in the morning, passing a blunt and bullshitting about everyday life as the soft orange glow of the backwoods streetlights slowly passed by. we were a large group of friends that gradually whittled down into smaller and smaller groups as the years passed. some of those friends are still around, some moved to other sides of the country, shit, some of them are dead. but whenever i hear this song, the visage of their faces and the timbre of their voices instantly comes back to me, as though not a day had passed. funny how the brain works; certain arbitrary things seem to unlock memories that you had otherwise thought to be long-since abandoned. nostalgia is great, but the melancholy nature of it sometimes becomes difficult to bear.

I remember me and my younger brother staying up late in the Summer of 2001, with MTV on the Television when the ‘Clint Eastwood’ video came out of nowhere. We both literally had an almost visceral reaction. We’d never heard or seen anything like that before. I got the Album the next week. I’ll never, ever forget those minutes of awe. Minutes of awe we both remember vividly to this day. I recall listening to this track in particular on the morning School bus ride to my 6th Grade class in Oklahoma USA on September 11, 2001. Even more vividly on that same bus ride home that day. This album is to me the musical bookmark of that awesome Pre-9/11 Summer and then the world changing on 9/11. The Gorillaz were delivered by the Universe at the exact place and exact moment in time we needed them. This album is as fresh and meaningful in 2024 as it was in 2001. Thank you Universe 🙏

I'm pretty sure that Gorillaz are free to use Superfast Jellyfish because it's their song, it's not illegal.

Nostalgia af! I was 5 years old in 2001 when I discovered Gorillaz and I had this album. I remember here in Houston there was a tropical storm and I sat in my room watching the rain while this song played over and over. Idk the distortion in this song was a vibe lol. I’m 26 now and still jam to their songs

While you kinda depressing, Gorillaz make you sad, happy, and makes you feel a lil' retro 90's vibe with this music btw

Probably my favorite Gorillaz track of all time. One of my favorite albums from my youth. The first 3 Gorillaz albums (self titled, demon days and plastic beach) are just fantastic.

City life Calling me all the time Me and my soul Geared to attack Never get another chance So what you doing Gotta get money Can't quite do it Can't stand your loneliness Can't stand loneliness Can't stand your loneliness Can't stand loneliness Should night life Be trying not to laugh though You won't get money From doing what you loving I'm moving out of city Victor of a second chance Get a lot of problems We kicked a lot of them Can't stand your loneliness Can't stand loneliness... Can't stand your loneliness, can't stop the loneliness
