Just to let everyone know who's debating about severed head vs soft decay, Damon's lyrics are often stream of consciousness. I'm quite confident that Damon recorded the chopped up "soft decay / severed head" line as gibberish, and then wrote a tangible lyric based on the syllables he made while singing gibberish. You can spot this in a lot of Gorillaz songs, such as Hong Kong, where the official lyrics vary wildly from the syllables he's actually singing. Just a different method of songwriting + lyricism I suppose :)
